We stayed in Vincennes IN this morning to visit two important sites. The first was the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park. We were the first to arrive and the park ranger opened the memorial for us.

The domed building is nearly the size of Abe Lincoln’s in Washington, D.C.  It is so beautiful inside! You’ll find seven murals surrounding the statue of Clark. If you wish to know more about the construction of the memorial click here.

The second place we visited was the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy. In 1969 he commented on the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance. Take a peek to see what it was about by clicking here. The museum was dedicated to his creative genius as a comedian and a clown.

Then we shot a few ‘drive-by’ photos. Check out Ellen and Jorge with the Auto Parts Family. Some have wind propellers so you have to be careful when standing by them.

The Rooster made of Scrap was on our list but the rocket you see in a photo was a lucky find. We met the son of the Pollard Motor Sales Collection. He welcomed us to take all the photos we could.

Mr. Pollard must have been some character. You can see a sense of humor with his play on words. The Bumper Crop features automobile bumpers ostensibly growing out of the ground in one big patch. Then there’s the Bumper Guard. He looks like a mean tin man. Don’t mess with him!

Ellen wanted to see the thirty-three foot tall Alien located on the Planetarium Ground of the Saint Louis Science Center. He’s a very skinny fellow. However, not far from there, we found the Turtle Park and that was delightful. Even Tickle got to play with the giant concrete turtles. We made new friends with Bill, Dee and Judy over their adoration of Tickle. They had once lived in that area which is known as Dog Town. Dogtown was a title widely used in the 1800s by miners to describe a group of small shelters around mines.

Above you’ll see Ellen trying to imitate Red Skelton.

She tried her best and did pretty well!

Jorge was too shy to try.

Jorge proved today that he is human. He left his guitar at the hotel in Vincennes IN. The hotel called us about an hour out of town. Very embarrassing! So, we lost two hours traveling back to pick it up. Hey, we’re all human…aren’t we!?!
