Our intended route is to follow U.S Highway 50 across the United States and then head home to California.

We won’t go across Nevada through Sacramento as we’ve done that part of the road before.

John Denver might have gotten a few facts wrong in his tribute song Take Me Home Country Roads but West Virginia is a beautiful state! It is so green!

A little after passing the town of Gormania WV we came to a closed road. We needed to find a way around. Lots of roads in West Virginia are under repair and Hwy 50 isamong them. We didn’t know.

We took the Coalfield Highway (Hwy 90) south and then turned north on a small winding road called the Seneca Trail. It was a two hour detour but the views were magnificent. What a wonderful find!

By-the-way, we travel with our dog, Tickle. We forgive you if you think she stays in her kennel all the day long. Check out some of those photos.  She’s a full participant in our trips!

We had plans to see and take pictures of lots of things and even visit a couple of museums but our big detour cut those plans out. Yet, did did happen to drop in for lunch at Cool Springs Park

There were lots of rusty tractors and trains to play with. It’s a child’s wonderland. However, today most of the park was fenced off. Our guess is that these old toys are falling apart and may be dangerous play on anymore. As stated before, Tickle didn’t mind playing with them and neither did Jorge.

Later, in Parkersburg WV, Ellen and Tickle stood under a Giant Indian (muffler man) advertising for the Cherokee Village Title and License Center. Then we realized that the day was getting short and we had to head for the hotel…and what a room we received! We can definitely say that it was bigger than any of our three homes, with two full size walk-in closets, a glass dining room table and a full kitchen. Wow!
